That's what Google says it's offering in its latest Google+ iOS app — with a big focus on fullscreen visuals and slick transitions. "Looks alone aren't enough—you also need an app that's fast and fluid. Even a simple swipe gesture can inspire the same 'wheeee!' as the bubble wands and ball pits we enjoy(ed) as kids. So today's update pays special attention to fun and performance..." Okay, so that's the sales pitch. Who's buying? GigaOM for one, who says the app shows off the two faces of Google+. "One part is Google+ the social layer, which enables users to personalize search and add functionality to ... GMail and Google Drive. The second part is Google+, the social network, which is more directly competing with Facebook. It's becoming increasingly clear that Google views media and especially photos as a key asset in this competition." And The Verge says, it likes the idea. After all, good design is good design. "While Google's still fighting off claims that its social network is a bit of a letdown, an app this well-designed makes us want to spend more time with the service — Google's likely hoping its recent redesigns will make its users do the same."
