{NEWS UPDATE} "FRANKIE HERNANDEZ " 17-Year-Old Killed Over Breaking His Girlfriend iPhone

A Bronx hit-and-run driver accused of killing her boyfriend in a rage over a broken iPhone claims the victim stepped into the path of her speeding SUV. Frankie Hernandez, 17, "jumped in front of the vehicle and I just kept going," suspect Jasmine Diaz told investigators about the fatal Wednesday crash on a Bronx street. Assistant District Attorney Justin Daly repeated her statement Thursday at an arraignment where Diaz was jailed without bail on first-degree manslaughter charges. Diaz, 25, stared silently at the courtroom floor before unleashing an angry scream as she was led away by court officers. Michelle Rodriguez, an accused shoplifter held with Diaz as the two awaited arraignment, said the accused killer insisted the tragedy was an accident. "She said she loved him," Rodriguez said. "He beat her. She has scratches all over her neck. ... She didn't intentionally run him over." But police said Diaz made a U-turn with her Lincoln Aviator, gunned the engine and plowed the teenager down before speeding away. Relatives found his broken, bleeding body in the middle of Morris Ave. The dead boy's family said the two had shared a volatile year-long relationship, and they were fighting about Diaz's shattered iPhone just minutes before Hernandez's death. The high school student apparently dropped his older girlfriend's phone, sending her into a fury. Diaz, who faces up to 25 years in prison, is due back in court next Tuesday. MUSICDRAMATV.NE
