Further losses expected; Islamic State seeking to expand operations in western Syria
LONDON, UK (22 August, 2015) – Territory controlled by the Syrian government has shrunk to one sixth the size of the original land mass controlled, according to new analysis released today by IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of critical information and insight.
The latest imagery and analysis from the IHS Conflict Monitor shows that the Syrian government lost 18 percent of its territory between January and August 2015. The Syrian government now controls 29,797 km2, roughly one sixth the size of the original territory.
