Video shot during the 2012 Great North Steam Fair at Beamish - here is visiting narrow gauge engine Chaloner as it might have looked in the 1920s/30s and the 1960s. Shot with an iPhone 4S and 8mm app. Chaloner was built by De Winton, in Caernarfon, in 1877 and it is thought that it was initially supplied new to the Pen-y-Bryn slate quarry at Nantlle, moving (in 1888) to the nearby Pen-yr-Orsedd slate quarry where it worked out the rest of its commercial life until purchase, for £21, by Alf Fisher. It is normally to be found at the Leighton Buzzard Railway in Bedfordshire, though has toured extensively. Much careful work has been carried out to conserve as much as the original locomotive as possible, though a new boiler was manufactured for it during the preservation era, and a further new boiler is to be fitted in the future.
