MacBook Pro Refresh Expected at WWDC

BY EVAN THOMAS ANCHOR JIM FLINK Looking for a new MacBook? You might want to wait a little longer. Sources tell Bloomberg new MacBook Pros are coming at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference. According to Bloomberg's sources, the new laptops will sport faster Intel chips, retina displays, flash memory, USB 3 and no optical drive. That means a thinner form factor — even slimmer than the current models, which are less than an inch thick. ZDNet says this would make for the first real MacBook Pro design overhaul in four years, toward the hot-selling thinness trend set by the MacBook Air. "But while the MacBook Air basks in the spotlight, the workhorse MacBook Pro (like its big brother the Mac Pro) hasn't garnered much attention. Last updated by Apple in October 2011, the MacBook Pro has sported the same unibody aluminum industrial design since its debut in the Fall of 2008." The specs and design info were readily confirmed by multiple sources, just like the upcoming iOS maps overhaul was. MacRumors suspects Apple wants us to know what's in the pipeline. "The report is likely a 'controlled leak', something that Apple PR has been known to do in the past to share product details." But while everyone is quoting the same specs, release dates are a little more disputed. Computerworld quotes analysts who say Apple isn't necessarily waiting for WWDC to release the new models.
