Sidecar: Making Smartphone Voice Calling Smarter

There has been tremendous innovation in smartphones in every area except the basic phone call. Voice calling is the most ubiquitous means of communication around the world, and now that over 800 million people around the world have smartphones the time is right to re-imagine what a phone call can be. That's the mission of Sidecar. "Now that we have smart phones, we think that you should be able to use all of the capabilities of that device in your calling experience," explains Rob Williams, CEO of Sidecar. "Users want to share photos, share contacts, show friends where they are, where to meet and choose a location. In the Sidecar to Sidecar calling experience you can do four main things; see what I see, location, photo sharing and contact sharing." Sidecar was founded in 2010 by Rob Williams, Rob Glaser and Jeff McLeman, all sharing extensive backgrounds in mobile, communications and consumer products. The company is backed by Ignition Ventures, The Webb Investment Network, Rob Glaser and other prominent individual investors. Sidecar is predicated in San Francisco and Seattle. The Sidecar app is available for Android phones, iPhone and iPod Touch as a free download in the Google Play and Apple App Stores.
