Mobile and Social Graphing

Recently I was entering names of contacts in iOS and noticed that from iOS 5 onwards, Apple have allowed us to add new fields for each individual of 'Related People'. Obviously this makes sense with respects to friends or family, though currently this seems to be nothing other than a mere placeholder. Strange for an innovative company, so I am wondering if Apple is building a social feature or future applications that will allow developers and itself to exploit the connections that I am entering, for the benefit of the user of the device ... We will have to wait and see, but you can bet that whatever it it will be game changing.
