iAccessibility – SXSW Interactive 2013 Panel Picker Proposal

Hey South By panel pickers! My name is Paul J. Adam, Accessibility Evangelist at Deque Systems. I'm proposing a panel on mobile accessibility and usability called iAccessibility - Mobile Freedom for All. My target audience is Web & Mobile Developers & Designers who want to reach the widest audience possible. Although accessibility is legally required to do business with Government and Higher Education after seeing how easy it is you'll be excited to step your game up and make all your apps and websites accessible. iPhones & iPads offer digital access to anyone with a Vision, Hearing, Learning, or Physical disability. How do people who are blind use -- computers, the internet, and mobile apps? Did you know they can even take photos with an iPhone as VoiceOver announces the number of faces visible on the camera. I will show you accessibility features of the Mobile Safari web browser and how to improve navigation of your web sites and apps for the blind. Here in the web rotor settings of VoiceOver, blind users are able to select which HTML elements they would like to navigate by on your site. I've selected some useful elements and will show how this works on the South By website. We can navigate by Headings... links, form controls, images... You can hear that the images on this page do not have an alt attribute as they are reading the file name which sounds like gibberish. Apple's VoiceOver screen reader includes the most human-like voices and you can even make your iPhone <b>...</b>
