NHK – US jury orders Samsung to pay Apple $1 Billion

NHK World News ---- US jury orders Samsung to pay Apple $1-bil. The jury at a California federal court has delivered a verdict in favor of Apple in its legal battle over patent claims with South Korea's Samsung. On Friday, the 9-member jury in San Jose ordered Samsung to pay more than 1 billion dollars in damages to the US company. In the trial, Apple demanded a ban on the sale of some Samsung products, accusing the company of copying the designs of its products -- iPhone and iPad. The South Korean company countersued, claiming Apple infringed on its patented communications technology. Both sides had demanded damages payment and a ban on the sale of each other's products. The jurors supported Apple's claim of patent violations by Samsung and rejected the South Korean company's demand for compensation. The court will hand down a final ruling following the jury's verdict. The companies have locked horns in the courts of 10 countries, including Japan and Germany. Earlier on Friday, a South Korean court found that both companies shared blame, ordering the companies to stop selling some of their products and pay compensation.
